Circular fashion marketplace Depop has launched a new brand campaign aimed at showcasing the breadth and diversity of fashion on the platform, and inspiring a broad audience to be part of the circular fashion economy.

The campaign, shot in and around Los Angeles, features a cast drawn from Depop’s own community, with talent identified through a range of channels including a social media callout and street casting.

Depop CMO Peter Semple said: “This campaign is about welcoming more people to Depop by showing how easy it is to buy, sell and discover in a more circular way. With no selling fees in the U.S. and the U.K., it’s now easier for anyone to join our community - whether that’s earning money from their wardrobe, looking for their next favourite item or finding a more sustainable way to engage with trends.”

Meet a selection of the community cast:

Amara, 22, (@amarabagabo on Depop) was born and raised in LA and runs her Depop shop alongside working at a club in Santa Monica.

“I was actually looking for outfits on Depop’s Instagram, and I saw they were casting for the campaign. I’ve loved Depop for the last four years. Everything I own is from Depop. Every time I'm working and people comment on the outfit, I have to say it's from Depop.”

JJ, 40, (@jonjonay on Depop) is a filmmaker and director from Seattle.

“The best thing I ever got on Depop was a shirt for my wife. It's a classic American college t-shirt thing in purple turquoise - it’s oversized, really worn in and beautiful.”

Khasnaa, 29, (@khasnaa on Depop) is a beauty artist and model from LA.

“I’m a huge fan of sustainable fashion, and I heard about Depop through Instagram, probably through fellow people who love thrifting, vintage items, reselling, stuff like that. I love that there's representation of women wearing a hijab in this campaign. Going on Depop and finding things that actually work and are modest and can be layered is really nice, because I think there's a huge audience of girls that then get to see themselves on Depop.”

Megan, 27, (@meggubb on Depop) is a hairstylist in LA.

“I sold one of my favorite pairs of Jeffrey Campbell platform sneakers on Depop, and bought a pair of knee high, square toe black boots that are one of my everyday staples.”

Ashwin, 29, (@7shwinn on Depop) works as a full-time actor in LA.

“I love showcasing some of the cool pieces that you can get secondhand. It's like you get top quality stuff on the low. I'm big time into vintage jackets because I'm a firm proponent of ‘old as gold’. My dad moving out from India had to leave a lot of his jackets behind. So getting to find those pieces online and reconnect with some fashion that my dad would wear is probably the coolest thing.”

Chase, 24, (@Chasewoodwardd on Depop) is a college graduate from LA.

“I use Depop on a daily basis and I get most of my clothes from Depop. I base my style on a late 80s, 90s kind of vibe, and my favorite thing I've ever gotten on Depop was definitely this vintage Carhartt work jacket. Any type of clothing item that you want or have ever desired, it's on there.”

Cal, 28, (@cto3000 on Depop) is a Creative Director from LA.

Depop just feels authentic and true to me. I buy a lot of stuff on Depop. I've found a lot of great vintage things. So when I heard about this campaign, I naturally wanted to be a part of it.”
